Detox diet is basically meant to cleanse our system that has been long abused by toxic diet. Our body tends to accumulate fat and becomes prone to diseases if we follow an erratic lifestyle and unhygienic food pattern. Detox diet is not just starving the body to get rid of the toxins but providing essential nutrition for healthy functioning.
Under detox diet, one eats organic fruits and vegetables that gives energy and are filled with nutritional benefits. It is a wrong notion that detox diet signifies starving the body or measuring calories while you eat. It simply means eating right and ‘alive’ or raw foods.
Detox diet is highly subjective. You can consume foods that can be easily digested. These are organic fruits, vegetables, unprocessed foods, pulses, extra virgin olive oil, vegetable juices, salads, fresh herbs, nuts, seeds- pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, sprouts, brown rice, green peas, lentils, adzuki beans, chickpeas, lemon water, unsweetened fruits, rice milk etc.
None of these should be fried or treated with additives. Green tea/ herbal tea in its purest form is an exceptional detox diet. However we should not forget water that purifies and cleanses our system very effectively. Hence drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water hastens the process. Detox diet is absolutely fresh and natural without artificial sweetness or color. It is back to mother earth in its simplest form.
Fruits and vegetables have the most essential nutrients for healthy body and mind. Eating whole fruits is very good as it provides more nutrients than juices. You can also have vegetable juices accordingly.
The idea is to eat in regular intervals, in lesser quantities and the correct manner in order to detoxify our bodies. This may also result in losing excess weight as one eats healthy and avoids fatty foods. Some claim that detox diets do not provide with all essential nutrients for healthy body, but this can be overcome by carefully selecting and consuming foods. This rejuvenates your body and you feel energized. You can devise a detox diet plan with your dietician so that none of the important nutrient misses out.
